Designing for Autumn: An Elevated Fall Home Refresh

There’s something about the first crisp morning of autumn that makes us want to turn inward. The city slows ever so slightly, light softens, and the idea of home takes on a new kind of importance. A fall home refresh is not just about bringing in seasonal decoration, but about curating an atmosphere that feels warm, layered, and welcoming. This season, we’re leaning into textures, timeless color palettes, and thoughtfully chosen accents that make a home feel both cozy and sophisticated.

A Season for Layers

Fall is a time for texture. Just as we layer sweaters and scarves, our homes can benefit from the same tactile richness. Swapping out airy summer linens for mohair throws, velvet pillows, or a wool rug instantly transforms a space. Even something as subtle as a velvet pillow in a jewel tone can signal the shift in season.

Bringing the Outdoors In

Autumn is the season where nature really puts on a show, and a fall home refresh should take cues from that beauty. A tall vase filled with seasonal branches—whether foraged or faux—brings sculptural drama to an entryway or dining table. We’ve been drawn to deep amber and rust-toned foliage, which feels earthy but elevated.

Setting the Atmosphere

No refresh is complete without scent and light. These are the intangible elements that define how a home feels in the fall. A warm candlelit glow or the fragrance of simmering spices can do as much as a new piece of furniture.

Statement Accents

Sometimes all it takes is one or two bold choices to reframe an entire room. A sculptural centerpiece on a dining table, a new set of velvet curtains in a deep moody tone, or a marble tray styled with seasonal accents can all provide that sense of transformation.

A Refined Palette

Color is one of the most powerful tools for creating a seasonal atmosphere. While pumpkin spice tones are classic, a fall home refresh can feel far more elevated with a broader palette.

This year we’re leaning into:

  • Deep Teal and Forest Green for richness and depth
  • Burgundy and Plum for a touch of romance
  • Grounded Neutrals like oat and stone to balance everything else

Together, these shades feel layered, timeless, and sophisticated—perfect for autumn without feeling predictable.
