How to Make the Most of Your Home With Creative Spaces

One trend we are absolutely loving is the rise of ultra-specific spaces with both creative and practical design. One thing we always encourage our clients to do is to push beyond the framework of the existing home and reimagine it to better serve your needs & lifestyle. Personally, our home has a basement speakeasy, a Drag Race-inspired laundry room, and an open Parlor floor because these are spaces that bring us joy and fit the way we live. If you’re considering how to make the most of your home with creative spaces, lets talk about where to start.

Identify a Need

One of the easiest ways to ideate a creative use of space is to identify a need your home could better serve. For example, is your kitchen on the ground floor, but the chair you love to drink your coffee in is on the second floor? A great creative use of space would be to create a cozy, chic coffee bar space near your favorite chair that feels equally luxurious and practical-a simple, everyday luxury that can elevate the charm of your home while also upgrading your everyday ritual.

Have Fun With Funky Spaces

As aforementioned, we have a Drag Race-Inspired laundry room. We did this because we wanted to turn the mundane into a moment. Your home should be an expression of who you are and what you love. For us, that looked like having a disco ball and neon sign above our heads as we perm press, but for others, maybe its a bedroom inspired by your travels, a kitchen with hidden gadgets where you can live out your top chef dreams, or a bookshelf that’s actually a door. One of our favorite ways a client has done this was at Break and Reno, where we created a billiards space. Being able to have fun in your space is just as important as being able to relax in it, and this point of view can really inspire some creative uses of your home!

Above all else, remember that your home is YOURS when you’re trying to figure out how to make the most of your home with creative spaces. Insert yourself into the details and create an experience you love waking up to each day!
