Our primary bedroom is probably the room in our house we’ve changed most frequently since we moved in in 2018. One could argue that this is because we’ve been much more intentional with other projects in our home, and of course, because the space that is mostly just for us comes last. We decided this year that we would reinvest some of the design skills we had garnered, along with fresh inspiration from recent travels to The Pig in Britain back into our own space. We began with our Parlor Floor, which you can catch updates of on our YouTube, but when we saw Farrow & Ball’s latest collection, we knew we had to pour some love into our bedroom. We decided to go for an English Countryside-inspired room with a modern twist; bold color on the walls, layered textiles on the bed, and lots of pattern throughout. We’re so happy with how it turned out, and we’re going to show you how to refesh your primary bedroom in three parts!
Primary Bedrooms Don’t Have To Be Boring
That doesn’t mean you have to go as bold as we did when it comes to a color, but we certainly encourage it! We opted for Farrow & Ball’s Duster on the walls–a warm, cozy ochre yellow that, to us, feels like. warm hug. That being said, you can absolutely choose a neutral color without making it boring. We toyed with the idea of Scallop in this room & also just recently finished a primary bedroom at our New Heights Reno project that featured a creamy grey hue from Portola that brought in beautiful texture with a lime wash finish. If you go bold with the walls, try neutral toned bedding, or sleek classic furniture to balance the scales. If you opt for a neutral, bring in texture, pattern, and intrigue in other elements like side tables.
Choose Your Bedding Wisely
One thing we will never skimp on when it comes to quality is bedding. We’re always big fans of Brooklinen, but the woven checkerboard duvet set we went with was next level. We chose to layer it with their Luxe Sateen Core sheet set, Sara Hand Printed pillow shams from Soil to Studio, along with not one but two quilts from Soil to Studio as well to give our bed a really full, layered look. When shopping for bedding, we suggest choosing textiles with complimenting colors and a variety of textures to really bring a cozy vibe to the room. We opted for a mix of florals and more modular, modern patterns for a nice juxtaposition between traditional and trend.
Furniture Is Harder To Change…
So we decided to choose classic pieces we feel can grow and change with the room if we ever decide to swap out styles. One of the best things we did when we first redid our bedroom years ago, however, was purchasing the Esme Bed & slipcover from Sixpenny. When it came time to refresh our bedroom, changing out the previously gray slipcover for a ‘New Leaf’ (no pun intended) was seriously the easiest part of the entire makeover. Headboards can play such an integral role in the overall design of a room, so to us, having the freedom to change colors and textures with ease is a major plus. For the other furniture in our room, we opted for a mix of vintage and new, with two vintage side tables, a reupholstered chair by Ruti at Find The Thread using House of Hackney fabric that we are absolutely obsessed with, alongside the Laurent dresser by our forever favorite, Arhaus.
Don’t Forget To Accessorize Your Primary Bedroom!
Once you’ve picked out your paint, layered your bed, and finalized your furniture, it’s time to get down to details! We brought a little more warmth into the space using a mixture of vintage art and fresh florals alongside a tea table from Rejuvenation, custom drapes by Kelley at Picnic House Drapers, modern side lamps, the Price Rug from Rejuvenation, and a chandelier from Rejuvenation. We love how this room turned out and already feel more inspired upon waking each day!
