Painting marble became a quick fix for chips, scratches, or discoloration—so many original mantels have been “saved” this way. Today, painted marble pieces are easier to come by—especially at architectural salvage yards. Our Go-To Restoration Process
- Apply Peel Away: We choose Peel Away Paint Remover for its effectiveness on stone. It’s thick, clingy, and perfect for marble surfaces.
- Let It Sit: The key is patience—leave it on for several hours, or even overnight, for best results.
- Peel & Clean: Remove the softened paint and then follow up with the provided cleaner to neutralize any residue.
- Deep Clean: Finish with denatured alcohol to ensure the marble is completely clean and ready for sealing or polishing. Make sure to get plenty of these sponges and these heavy duty cleaning wipes!
- Optional Seal or Polish: Depending on the stone, we might apply granite and stone sealer to protect the surface or bring out the natural sheen.
One Advantage of Painted Marble
Believe it or not, the paint actually acted like a shield over decades—protecting the marble from damage. Once removed, you often discover pristine stone waiting beneath.
